Fashionably Drunk: Exposing the Dark Side of Fashion Through Photography
Behind the Lens: Unveiling the Dark Side of Fashion with "Fashionably Drunk"
Welcome to Fashionably Drunk, an editorial project brought to you by Antonio Form AFS Photography. This project delves into the harsh realities of the fashion industry, revealing the often-unspoken pressures and abuses that happen behind the scenes. Through a stylish yet artful shoot, we aim to expose the darker side of the glamorous fashion world.
As photographers, we are often drawn to the allure of high-end couture and extravagant photoshoots. It’s easy to become swept up in the beauty and opulence that fashion portrays. But beneath the surface of those perfect images lies a darker, untold story. This is the inspiration behind my latest editorial shoot, Fashionably Drunk.
The Genesis of the Project
The idea for Fashionably Drunk didn’t come about in the usual creative process. It was sparked unexpectedly during a simple conversation with someone visiting the studio. As they toured the space, my mind began to wander—what could I create with this studio? What has been done before? That’s when it hit me—why focus only on the glamorous side of fashion, when I could explore its darker, hidden realities?
Driven by curiosity, I began researching the emotional toll and mental health issues, such as addiction and abuse, that often plague the fashion industry. These are the uncomfortable truths that rarely make it into mainstream fashion discussions, where everything is about success, beauty, and the perfect exterior. I realized that to tell a more honest story, I needed to flip the narrative. What if we showcased both sides of the industry? That thought laid the foundation for the concept of Fashionably Drunk, a project that would bring to light the hidden struggles behind the industry’s glitzy facade.
The Set Build: Crafting the Vision with Aaron from XYZ Studios
Creating the set for Fashionably Drunk was one of the most crucial elements in bringing the concept to life. It wasn’t just about assembling a few props; it was about transforming a blank studio space into a narrative-rich environment that would communicate the story we wanted to tell.
Collaborating with Aaron from XYZ Studios was key to making this happen. Aaron and I worked closely together to turn our creative ideas into a tangible reality. The process was one of constant brainstorming, adjusting, and fine-tuning the details, with Aaron’s expertise in set design playing a vital role in realizing the vision.
1. Building the Foundation
We began by discussing the overall aesthetic and mood for the shoot, with the goal of creating a set that captured both the elegance and discomfort that are so prevalent in the fashion industry. Once we were aligned on the concept, the real work began. Aaron took the lead on sourcing materials and ensuring that the space was physically ready for the set design.
The studio was stripped down and reimagined, and Aaron’s experience in creating immersive environments really came through. From there, we focused on the finer details—the golden toilet, flowers, and tiling. Every element of the set was meticulously chosen to contribute to the story we were telling, each prop symbolizing a different facet of the industry. The luxurious yet grimy feel of the set had to reflect the duality of the fashion world—glamour on the surface, but frailty and vulnerability underneath.
2. Crafting the Details
With Aaron’s help, we fine-tuned every corner of the set, ensuring it felt both opulent and decayed. Aaron’s hands-on approach in building the set made all the difference—whether it was carefully arranging tiles or ensuring the right lighting to enhance the contrast between the "glamorous" elements and the more disturbing undertones. We used lighting and texture to cast shadows that echoed the emotional manipulation that models and other creatives in the fashion industry face.
One of the standout elements of the set was the golden toilet, which served as the focal point of the shoot. We wanted it to be both absurd and beautiful, a representation of how the fashion industry can turn luxury into a tool of exploitation. The rest of the set was filled with mismatched flowers, gold accents, and other props that created a sense of discomfort, yet all within a visually rich, high-fashion environment.
3. Bringing the Vision to Life
Once the set was built and ready for shooting, the collaborative effort didn’t stop. We worked alongside talented creatives—stylists, makeup artists, and models—all of whom brought their own energy to the shoot. Aaron and I were constantly adjusting things on set, making sure the vision we had in our minds translated to every shot. Whether it was adjusting props or repositioning lights to capture the right atmosphere, the process was fluid, yet meticulous.
Working with Aaron allowed us to craft a set that not only looked stunning but also felt authentic. His expertise and ability to bring creativity to life on such a large scale were invaluable in making Fashionably Drunk the visual commentary on the fashion industry that it became.

Making the Proposal and Reaching Out
One of the key elements in bringing Fashionably Drunk to life was ensuring that the styling of the shoot was as impactful and thought-provoking as the set design and photography. That’s where House of Aristocrats and the talented designer Pharaoh Farrukh came into play. When I set out to design the concept for this project, I knew that the styling had to reflect the duality of the fashion industry—luxury intertwined with exploitation, beauty coupled with discomfort. It was crucial to find a designer whose aesthetic aligned with this vision, and Pharaoh Farrukh was the perfect match.
1. Crafting the Proposal
Once I had the concept locked in—focusing on the juxtaposition of high-end glamour and the darker, more uncomfortable side of the fashion world—I began thinking about the stylistic direction. The shoot needed to reflect the emotional tension of the fashion industry, and the styling had to be bold enough to complement the unsettling atmosphere we were creating.
Knowing I wanted to use a black and gold color palette, I turned to Pharaoh Farrukh of House of Aristocrats. I had followed Pharaoh’s work for some time and was drawn to his ability to combine opulence with rawness. His designs were the perfect embodiment of the story I wanted to tell—luxury with an edge, beauty with depth.
Once I had Pharaoh in mind, I crafted a proposal outlining the concept of Fashionably Drunk and why I thought House of Aristocrats would be the ideal partner for this project. The proposal wasn’t just about the fashion; it was about creating a visual narrative that would resonate with both the industry and the audience. I explained the themes of emotional manipulation, exploitation, and the double-edged sword of fame and power in the fashion world. I knew that Pharaoh’s unique aesthetic, with its bold black and gold tones, would help bring these themes to life.
2. Why Pharaoh Farrukh and House of Aristocrats?
Choosing Pharaoh Farrukh for Fashionably Drunk wasn’t just about aesthetics—it was about finding a designer who shared my vision and understood the power of fashion as storytelling. Pharaoh’s ability to craft designs that marry elegance with rebelliousness made him the perfect choice for this project. His black and gold palette was not only visually striking but symbolized the theme of duality at the heart of the shoot—luxury and decay, beauty and manipulation.
What particularly drew me to Pharaoh’s work was how he uses these contrasting elements in his designs. His work often plays with shapes, textures, and color to create a sense of both grandeur and grit. This duality in his creations mirrored exactly what I wanted to capture in Fashionably Drunk. The black and gold tones, with their richness and complexity, reflected the superficial allure of the fashion world, while the rawness of his designs spoke to the hidden struggles that exist beneath the surface.
In the proposal, I highlighted Pharaoh’s distinctive approach to fashion, where each piece tells a story of its own. His work is not just about creating beautiful garments; it’s about conveying an emotion or an idea. This mindset aligned perfectly with my vision for the shoot—fashion as a narrative, as a vehicle for raising awareness about the darker side of the industry.

3. Bringing the Collaboration to Life
Once Pharaoh and I agreed to collaborate, the next step was to work together to bring the vision to life. Pharaoh was incredibly open to the concept and fully embraced the idea of merging luxury with discomfort. We discussed the materials and fabrics that would best reflect the themes of the shoot—rich, opulent, and structured, yet with an underlying sense of tension.
I wanted Pharaoh’s pieces to be the anchor of the shoot, giving the models an unmistakable sense of power and presence while also visually reflecting the vulnerability that comes with being in the industry. The black and gold designs stood out beautifully in the afterparty toilet scene, with the golden accents of the toilet and set creating a perfect contrast to the deeper, darker tones of the garments.
Pharaoh’s attention to detail in his creations helped ensure that the fashion on display didn’t just complement the concept—it elevated it. Each piece had a purpose, whether it was a sleek, tailored look that screamed sophistication or a more relaxed design that brought a sense of vulnerability to the models’ poses. The styling became not just about looking good but about embodying the emotional and psychological complexities of the fashion world.
4. The Result: A Stunning Collaboration
The collaboration with House of Aristocrats and Pharaoh Farrukh was a turning point in the execution of Fashionably Drunk. It brought the vision to life in a way I hadn’t imagined, blending powerful storytelling with visually striking fashion. The final result is a series of images that speak to both the allure and the dark reality of the fashion industry—luxurious, yet deeply unsettling.
Working with Pharaoh and House of Aristocrats was a key part of what made this shoot successful. The designs not only added a sense of opulence to the set but also amplified the underlying message of the project. Together, we created a visual narrative that challenges the status quo and starts a conversation about the hidden truths of the fashion world.

The Final Results: Lessons Learned and Moving Forward with New Projects
As I look back on the journey of creating Fashionably Drunk, I’m filled with a deep sense of pride and reflection. This editorial project, which began as a raw idea inspired by the darker side of the fashion industry, has turned into something much more meaningful than I could have anticipated. From the set design to the collaboration with House of Aristocrats and Pharaoh Farrukh, every aspect of this shoot came together to tell a powerful story that I hope will resonate with those who see it.
But as with any creative endeavor, it’s not just about the end result—it’s also about the process, the lessons learned, and the steps forward. Here’s what I’ve taken away from Fashionably Drunk and how I plan to carry these lessons into my upcoming projects.
1. The Power of Storytelling in Fashion Photography
One of the biggest takeaways from this project is how deeply fashion photography can convey a story. Fashionably Drunk wasn’t just about creating pretty pictures—it was about creating a narrative that speaks to the pressures, exploitation, and manipulation within the fashion world.
I’ve learned that fashion, at its core, is a storytelling tool. Every detail, from the set design to the clothing to the poses, can speak volumes about deeper, often unspoken issues. Going forward, I want to continue using fashion photography as a vehicle for storytelling. Whether it’s about shedding light on industry flaws or celebrating culture and identity, I now have a clearer understanding of how to weave a message through my work.
2. The Importance of Collaboration
One of the things that truly made Fashionably Drunk stand out was the incredible collaboration with talented professionals like Aaron from XYZ Studios and Pharaoh Farrukh. Working alongside people who share your vision, yet bring their own unique talents and perspectives to the table, is a game-changer.
The collaboration process has taught me the importance of trust, open communication, and mutual respect. With Aaron’s help on set design and Pharaoh’s incredible fashion creations, we were able to produce something that neither of us could have accomplished alone. In the future, I plan to focus even more on building strong collaborations, bringing in a variety of creative minds to elevate my shoots.
3. Planning and Execution: The Devil’s in the Details
The set design for Fashionably Drunk was one of the most ambitious I’ve ever undertaken, and it taught me the importance of meticulous planning and preparation. From conceptualizing the mood of the shoot to collaborating on the set build, every step was essential to ensuring the final result was impactful.
While the final images were stunning, I did learn that there’s always room for improvement in the pre-production process. Moving forward, I want to give myself more time for planning, particularly when it comes to set builds and sourcing the right props and materials. Some aspects of the set could have been more cohesive, and there were moments where time constraints meant I had to make quick decisions. For future projects, I’ll aim to build in more buffer time for set builds and allow room for creative adjustments as needed.
4. Lighting and Composition: Always Evolving
The lighting on Fashionably Drunk was a key element in achieving the moody and atmospheric look I wanted. However, as with every shoot, there were moments where I found myself experimenting with different lighting setups to capture the right emotion in each shot. The darker, more dramatic lighting worked well for conveying the tension in the images, but there’s always room to refine my lighting technique further.
I’ve learned that lighting is never static—it’s something I need to keep experimenting with. Each shoot requires different lighting approaches, and I plan to invest more time into learning about advanced lighting techniques to push my work further. The way I work with natural light, studio setups, and mixed lighting sources will continue to evolve with every project.
5. The Business Side of Things: Learning to Pitch and Collaborate
Reaching out to House of Aristocrats and Pharaoh Farrukh was a pivotal moment in the project. Not only did I have to craft a proposal that aligned with their brand and aesthetic, but I also had to negotiate and manage the collaboration logistics. This was a learning curve for me in terms of how to pitch my ideas effectively and professionally.
Moving forward, I want to focus more on refining my business communication skills. Whether it’s reaching out to brands, potential collaborators, or even clients, the ability to present my ideas clearly and persuasively is crucial. I’ve learned that the way you present yourself and your projects is just as important as the work itself.
6. Building on the Momentum
Now that Fashionably Drunk is complete, I’m excited to use this project as a springboard for new creative ventures. The lessons I’ve learned from this shoot will inform everything I do moving forward—from set design and lighting to collaboration and business development. I’m eager to take on more ambitious projects that allow me to continue exploring the deeper, more complex side of fashion.
One of my immediate goals is to focus on working with emerging brands and designers, particularly those whose work challenges norms and pushes boundaries. I’ve realized how much potential there is in exploring fashion’s role as a social commentary, and I’m excited to continue that journey.
7. Conclusion: A New Chapter in Fashion Photography
Fashionably Drunk has been a significant milestone in my career, not just as a photographer, but as a storyteller. The project has solidified my belief in the power of fashion to make a statement and the importance of creating work that goes beyond just aesthetics.
As I move forward into new projects, I plan to continue honing my craft, expanding my collaborations, and pushing the boundaries of what fashion photography can achieve. The future is full of possibilities, and with every shoot, I strive to tell stories that matter, challenge perceptions, and leave a lasting impression.
